Why did your family choose Kennedy for your education?
My mom and dad always wanted the best education for me and my sister. We grew up in Niles, so I always had my heart set on going there. When my sister then chose to attend Kennedy, I grew to love the people and the Blue Pride. There was no other option at that point, I would become a Kennedy Eagle. Looking back, I know I not only made the best decision by obtaining a great education, but also met people that would become lifelong friends. Thanks to my parents for their hard work and sacrifice to allow me the choice.
What is your favorite Kennedy memory?
Cheerleading was my favorite Kennedy memory. It was not only an activity that I loved, but it taught me so many important things that guide me through life to this day. Things like working together as a team, being on time, hard work pays off, always dress for the job, and dedication.
Did you have a teacher or class that was a major influence on you?
Father Petrunak. He was kind, funny, and a friend to everyone. Not only his words but his actions too. I knew I wanted to try and be, at least, half the person he was.
Education/Professional Experience:
What career did you choose and tell us a little bit about how you got there.
I've been an electrical engineer/lighting designer since I graduated from college. I work for what is called an MEPT firm that designs the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology for commercial buildings. I chose this path because I always had a love of math and architecture, which led me to attend the Pennsylvania State University. They were one of the few universities that offered Architectural Engineering. College was not easy, but I chose to work hard, not give up and now have worked on some "once in a lifetime" projects.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Personally, I would have to say being a mother to my children. It's one of the hardest jobs that one will ever do. When their friends or teachers have so many wonderful things to say about them, I know I'm doing something right.
Professionally, every single project that I've helped design. I've worked on the renovation/expansion of the Cleveland Museum of Art, University Hospitals TriPoint Medical Center, multiple ground up high schools in Ohio and, so many I've lost count, renovations throughout the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. My job may only indirectly help people, but I know all the hard work and thought process that went into every project. All the codes that need to be adhered to in design that are in place to keep people safe. The number of dedicated professionals that work together to produce successful projects. From people's entertainment to teaching the children of the world to caring for people's health, it's always an honor to be chosen to help in the electrical design of these buildings.
What is a specific piece of advice you would give to a Kennedy senior?
Enjoy your last year! After that, choose to do something you love (you'll work for a very long time). Always find time to spend with family and friends. Don't let your career consume you that you miss out on doing other things you love. Find a life balance sooner rather than later. Life is short, do things that make you happy!
